BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide composed of 15 amino acids. Its sequence is associated with a protective compound originally identified in gastric tissue, and it has been investigated for its effects on cellular repair, gastrointestinal integrity and vascular signalling.
Studied Uses
BPC-157 has primarily been examined in laboratory and animal models involving:
- Gastrointestinal mucosal protection and repair
- Tendon, ligament and skeletal-muscle healing
- Wound closure and tissue remodelling
- Fibroblast migration and growth
- Blood-vessel formation and restoration of blood flow
- Inflammatory and oxidative-stress pathways
How It Works
Research suggests that BPC-157 may influence several pathways involved in repair and vascular function. In cell and animal studies, it has been associated with increased fibroblast migration, activation of the FAK–paxillin signalling pathway and regulation of the nitric-oxide system.
BPC-157 has also been observed to influence VEGFR2, Akt and eNOS signalling, which participate in endothelial-cell activity, blood-vessel formation and blood-flow regulation.
