Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide with the amino-acid sequence Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro. It combines the ACTH(4–7) fragment with the tripeptide Pro-Gly-Pro and has been investigated for its effects on neurotrophic signalling, cognition and cellular responses to neurological stress.

How It Works
Experimental studies suggest that it influences the brain-derived neurotrophic factor pathway, including increased BDNF expression and activation of its TrkB receptor. This signalling system is involved in neuronal survival, synaptic plasticity, learning and memory.
Research has also associated Semax with changes in nerve growth factor expression and broader regulation of genes involved in neurological signalling, inflammation and cellular responses to ischemic injury.
