BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide composed of 15 amino acids. It has primarily been investigated in laboratory examining gastrointestinal integrity, cellular repair, blood-vessel signalling and connective-tissue responses.
Studied Uses
BPC-157 has been studied in preclinical research involving:
- Gastrointestinal mucosal injury and repair
- Tendon and ligament injury models
- Skeletal-muscle and soft-tissue responses
- Fibroblast survival and migration
- Blood-vessel formation and restoration of circulation
- Inflammatory and oxidative-stress pathways
Cell-based research found that BPC-157 promoted tendon-fibroblast outgrowth, survival and migration. Laboratory studies have also examined its effects on angiogenesis and blood-flow recovery.
How It Works
BPC-157 appears to influence several cellular pathways associated with migration, vascular activity and tissue remodelling.
In tendon-fibroblast studies, it increased activation of the FAK–paxillin signalling pathway, which participates in cell attachment and movement. Separate vascular research associated BPC-157 with VEGFR2 internalization and activation of the VEGFR2–Akt–eNOS pathway, which is involved in endothelial-cell activity and new blood-vessel formation.
